Musical Inspiration in Mitchell Point Tunnel



We started this day at the newly opened Mitchell Point Tunnel. ODOT opened this tunnel on March 21, 2025. It was built to mimic the historic crossing at Mitchell Point and it connects to the Historic Columbia River HWY State Trail.

Parking here is a little sparse, and parking on the side of the road leading up to the lot is illegal, so i suggest arriving early.


That said, this is THE PERFECT spot for photos for couples who love Oregon's nature and beauty, but are also looking for something a little more alternative. The dark stone tunnel is a little spooky and offers amazing architecture for unique framing and photo oppurtunites. There are also arched windows for those breathtaking Columbia River Gorge views.

When I saw this session posted in a local photography group, I could NOT sign up fast enough!

As a photographer and early 00's choir nerd, this styled session was right up my alley. The Mitchell Tunnel was the perfect spot for this session and beautifully mimics The Phantom's lair. The chill and eeriness was contrasted by warm light and candles inspired by scenes in the movie.
